A Jalen carries the voice of the people. Armed with the Power of Word, they drag stories into the light when wealth, fear, or plain old neglect would rather leave them buried.
The Power of Word begins with rebellion. Sometimes that rebellion looks like a march. Sometimes it looks like a room going silent because someone finally said the thing everyone knew and nobody wanted to hear.
That need to speak fuels the profession. Jalens do not perform for decoration. They perform because a story left unheard can become its own kind of wound.
That is a lot of responsibility to put on a rhyme scheme. Tikor has done stranger things.
